2 Migrant Stories and a Dwelling - A Collaboration with Jane Wong
The piece was showcased in the Migrating Landscapes Regional Ontario Exhibition at Brookfield Place in 2011, and was a part of National Youth Arts Week in 2012.
" This weave gathers the memories of our past and connects them to the present.
It hangs suspended,
transcending generations of adaptation.
Neither settled nor un-settled,
both open and enclosed,
unbound by earth or sky.
It is a process and a journey of craft and discovery.
The arrayed chords intertwine; accumulating,
layer by layer,
memory by memory,
continually building the dwelling like a nest.
Each articulated knot, loop and braid
invokes memories of our Chinese traditions.
Residing within these textures is
a datum in the landscape of our experiences-
a reflective plane that projects our narrative upon the context,
making a deep and lasting impression.
Here,
light and shadow play amongst the surfaces,
and reveal the complexity and ambiguity
of the constant dialogue between
dwelling and landscape,
past and present,
memory and reality. "
